Description
Tephrocactus geometricus is a rare cactus valued by enthusiasts for its distinctive spherical segments and elegant flowers. Its smooth, bluish-green to gray-green joints form geometric clusters, giving it a unique structure. This slow-growing plant develops small clumps, with each segment capable of detaching easily for propagation.
In spring to early summer, it produces large, soft pink to lavender blooms at the tips of the upper segments, measuring up to 5β6 cm wide. The striking contrast between the delicate flowers and the rigid, geometric stems makes this cactus a captivating addition to any collection.
Environment
This cactus thrives in full sun to partial shade, requiring a minimum of 4 to 6 hours of sunlight each day. Water only when the soil is fully dry, reducing watering significantly during winter. Plant it in a gritty, well-draining cactus mix supplemented with pumice or sand to ensure proper drainage. It prefers warm temperatures between 20 and 35Β°C and must be shielded from frost. Use shallow pots that provide excellent drainage. Propagation can be done through detached segments or seeds.
Landscape Uses
Its symmetrical form makes it an excellent choice for minimalist rock gardens, containers, or bonsai-style succulent arrangements.
