Echinopsis ‘Cupcake’ Cactus-Summer Blooms
Family
Cactaceae
Native
South America
Description
Echinopsis ‘Cupcake’ is a charming globular to columnar cactus known for its plump, ribbed body and neat arrangement of white spines. The body is bright green, with vertical ridges that give it a ribbed cupcake-like form—hence its name. Over time, it may grow taller while maintaining a rounded top.
During the blooming season, this cactus produces large, showy, funnel-shaped flowers in shades of white, pink, or light yellow, which open in the evening and last for a short time. These spectacular blooms are much larger than the cactus body itself, making it a striking collector’s piece.
Environment
Echinopsis ‘Cupcake’ Cactus requires exposure to full sunlight or bright indirect light for optimal growth.
Water it minimally, ensuring the soil dries out thoroughly between watering sessions. Plant in a well-draining mix designed for cacti and succulents. It thrives in warm temperatures and must be shielded from frost.
Apply a diluted cactus fertilizer monthly throughout the growing season. Expect blooms from late spring to early summer.
Landscape Uses
It is an excellent plant for container growing. It always looks good and stays small and perfect for tabletops, windowsills, and rock gardens.
