Description
The elephant tree (Operculicarya decaryi) is named for its distinctive gray, rugged trunk. It features a thick, textured, and contorted trunk with zigzagging branches and alternate odd-pinnate leaves composed of small, glossy dark green rounded leaflets that often develop a striking red tint in cooler temperatures. Mature specimens produce red flowers and spherical orange fruit.
The Operculicarya Decaryi Bonsai, originating from Madagascar, features a twisted trunk and fine, delicate leaves. This drought-resistant bonsai gains distinct character as it matures.
