Description
The Astrophytum cv. Haku Jo cactus is a small plant with a round stem that has a star-shaped section. Its distinct feature is its ribbed structure: the ribs have fuzzy areoles that appear connected by wool-like, yellowish-white lines. It typically has 5 to 8 ribs, similar to other Astrophytum species, and grows slowly, reaching a diameter of 10-15 cm over many years. This cactus usually does not have spines, or may have very small and delicate ones. The flowers are pale yellow, up to 2 inches long, and bloom in the spring or early summer. It takes up to 6 years for this cactus to reach maturity and bloom.
Environment
Like most cacti they’re drought tolerant and need very little care and attention to grow well. Not enough sunlight and over-watering are common mistakes.
Plenty of sunshine will keep this cacti more than happy. In a glass room you may have to provide some shade during a hot summers day to prevent sunburn
Feed every 4 weeks with a Nitrogen-poor and Potassium & Phosphorus-rich fertilizer during summer
Landscape Uses
It is an excellent plant for garden rockery settings, desert type landscapes, patios and botanical gardens
